Popular Science hires interns throughout the year. The position is full or almost-full time for roughly 12 weeks (we’re flexible on exact dates). Primary duties include research and reporting across the entire magazine, and interns also write short pieces such news stories, sidebars and blog posts. The relatively small staff and open atmosphere at PopSci expose interns to all parts of the magazine-making process, including the opportunity to sit in on most meetings, and interns are encouraged to pitch ideas and chase down their own work from editors. Ideal candidates have a passion for science and/or personal technology, as well as a demonstrated interest in magazine journalism. Interested parties should mail a resume, clips and a cover letter explaining why you want to work at Popular Science (versus any other magazine) to Jennifer Bogo. Please also indicate on your application if you can receive academic credit for your internship (not required). Summer applications should be received by March 1, and a decision will be made by April 1. Applications for the fall are due July 1. Other quarters are accepted on a rolling basis.
