Scientific American

We hire two to three interns apiece for the fall semester, spring semester and summer. The interns receive a modest hourly wage. Students who are interested in interning here should email Robin Lloyd, News Editor, Online (rlloyd@sciam.com) a cover letter (not just a short introductory email saying, “I want to apply; here are my resume and clips”), resume and three or so clips, preferably as a single pdf or multiple pdfs.

The internship includes such duties as assisting editors, reporting, proofreading, fact checking, and proposing and writing short articles for Scientific American, Scientific American Mind and/or the Scientific American web site. Interns typically leave with a healthy handful of clips, usually on the web site.

Qualifications: Must have command of basics of reporting and writing and a strong interest in science and technology topics. An undergraduate degree in journalism or a science discipline is preferred but not required. Applicants must be enrolled in some undergraduate or graduate school (or be recent graduates).

Duration of internship, ten weeks in the summer; four months in the fall and spring.

Spring/Fall: 20 hours/week minimum (CUNY J-Schoolers, this means you have to be enrolled part-time in fall and spring for fall and spring internship)

Approximate application deadlines:
Fall: July 1
Spring: November 1

SUMMER DEADLINE: March 1
