The J-School’s NYCity News Service took seven finalist spots in Editor & Publisher’s national EPPY Awards competition. The winners are set to be announced Oct. 26.

The News Service landed in the Best College/University Newspaper Website category. Meanwhile, three News Service special reports were among the five finalists in the Best College/University News or Event Feature category:

Another three News Service special reports placed in the Best College/University Investigative or Documentary Feature category:

  • Voiceless, María Sánchez Díez’ look at the potential life-or-death challenges confronting Spanish-speaking domestic violence victims in New York.
  • Unsettling, a probe into the flawed resettlement system faced by Syrian refugees in the U.S.
  • Predator’s Web, Lena Masri’s investigation into the shadowy world of online pedophilia.

The EPPYs announcement follows the news that the News Service scored eight finalists in the Associated Collegiate Press’ national awards competition. The winners will be announced on Oct. 22, during ACP’s National College Media Convention in Washington.

The NYCity News Service, which debuted in 2007, feeds student stories about New York City neighborhoods to various outlets, and produces multimedia special reports, sometimes in collaboration with professional news organizations.

In recent years, the News Service has collected dozens of honors in local and national journalism competitions run by, among others, the Online News Association, Editor & Publisher and the Society of Professional Journalists.
